Debunking the Common Myths of Fibromyalgia

One of the most annoying things to deal with when you have Fibromyalgia is all of the annoying myths that surround the illness. All of these myths just confuse people even more and make it harder for those who suffer from Fibromyalgia to explain what’s really going on. Here are some of the most common myths of Fibromyalgia.


It’s important to keep the facts straight and the frustration levels low. Hopefully one day we will have most of the answers, but until then don’t help spread the myths.

It is not a disease for which, once they find a cure, a pill can be popped and now everything is okay. Fibromyalgia doesn’t have a single cause. It is not a bug or a virus or a parasite. Fibromyalgia is not, despite its name, about muscle pain. Fibromyalgia is not incurable. Fibromyalgia is not in your or anyone else’s head.

For those who live with Fibromyalgia, there is no part of their life that it does not affect: sleep, energy, movement or mood. To what degree it affects one’s life varies from person to person.
